About

Gill has a strong history of leadership in the library and information studies (LIS) field, specifically relating to the development and enhancement of the LIS professional of the future. She has just completed her term (year ending May 2006) as President of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Gill's research in the LIS arena has included 22 presentations to conferences world wide in the past 4 years. Her research includes the creation (with Helen Partridge ) of the unique DNA model of the 21st century LIS professional (2004), which is considered a notable and unique contribution to the LIS profession due to it's identification of both the professional and generic competencies required for effective service delivery in the LIS context.

Gill is one of the leaders (along with Helen Partridge ) in the Evidence Based Librarianship (EBL) movement, which aims to move the profession forward through research and to advance the skill and knowledge of LIS professionals. Gill Co-Chaired the 3rd International EBL conference held in Brisbane in 2005, working alongside the acknowledged global leaders in the EBL field. She has published widely in the EBL area , and has recently been invited to submit a paper for an EBL themed issue of the journal Library Hi Tech, to be published in 2006.

Professional Milestones

As Course Coordinator for the library and information management discipline area, Gill has focussed on the design and development of a new Masters course to meet the evolving needs of the LIS profession in the 21st century. For her successful introduction of Criterion Referenced Assessment (CRA) as a whole-of-course assessment strategy in the resulting IT70 Master of Information Management course, Gill was selected as a QUT Teaching Fellow in 2004. In addition to this honour, she has won five Queensland University of Technology (QUT) teaching awards, and in 2005 was awarded a Fellowship of the Higher Education Research Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA), which recognises higher education teaching that satisfies a set of quality standards, as well as a demonstrated commitment to advanced professional development activities.
